Researchers have known for years that listening to music can lead to some great health benefits. And it's not just for people...even your plants can get something out of it. Fact is, experiments have shown that plants grow faster when music, especially lower-frequency music, is played over fields or into greenhouses. But don't take our word for it...try talking to Maria Reidelbach from Kerhonkson, New York. She never intended to be interested in growing vegetables. Her expertise is actually in mini-golf! So much so, that she wrote the definitive book on mini-golf courses across America. But then she came up with the idea to save her friend's family farm by using her knowledge to create a totally different kind of roadside attraction. Aside from showing her visitors a good time, she's also introducing them to foods they've never tried before, as well as the importance of local agriculture. By the way, that huge gnome that you see in the video has a name - it's Gnome Chomsky. He was built as a tribute to Frieda Carter, who designed the first mini-golf course in 1928 on Lookout Mountain in Tennessee. Visit Maria's web site, Hoopla.org. Read an article about him entitled, Kerhonkson gnome pursues Guinness record.

KELDER'S FARM & MINI-GOLF ECLECT-RONIC INK!

FROM M.R. the W.G. in NYC:

Hallmark Channel will feature a short piece about Homegrown Mini-Golf, the world's largest garden gnome, and Kelder's Farm on Tuesday morning between 7 and 8 on the "New Morning" show and all day on their web site! Pamela Mason-Wagner, an Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker who has worked extensively with Bill Moyers and has also created films for ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS spent a whole day on the farm with her cameraman last summer filming the short piece.

You can see it on Time-Warner 82 in the Kerhonkson area and 107 in NYC or check your cable or satellite listings. If you aren't up and at'em that time of the morning, you can also watch it all day Tuesday on Hallmark's website: http://www.newmorningtv.tv/todaysshow.jsp , or afterward on their web archive for 11/27/07.

Also, Kelder's farm market is open until Christmas with locally-grown trees, wreaths made with the brand new wreath-making machine, and wonderful farm-style gifts. It's on Route 209 between Accord and Kerhonkson--watch for Chomsky, the world's largest garden gnome in his holiday best!

Thanks, and see you soon,

Maria Reidelbach

CHRISTMAS WRAPPING LYRICS

boys & gurls...i have had many requests to reprint these...so here ya go:

CHRISTMAS WRAPPING

bah! humbug! no...that's too strong, 'cause it is my favorite holiday
but all this year's been a busy blur, don't think I have the energy
to add to my already mad rush, just cause it's "'tis the season"

the perfect gift for me would be, completions and connections
left from last year, ski shop, encounter, most interesting...
had his number but never the time, most of '81 passed along those lines

so deck those halls, trim those trees, raise up cups of Christmas cheer

I just need to catch my breath, Christmas by myself this year

..............

calendar picture, frozen landscape, chilled this room for 24 days

evergreens, sparkling snow, get this winter over with!

flashback to springtime, saw him again, would've been good to go for lunch

couldn't agree when we were both free, we tried, we said we'd keep in touch

didn't, of course, 'til the summertime,
out to the beach to his boat, could I join him?
no, this time it was me, sunburn in the third degree

now the calendar's just one page and, of course, I am excited
tonight's the night, but I've set my mind, not to do too much about it

..............
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas...think I'll miss this one this year

..............

hardly dashing through the snow, 'cause I bundled up too tight
last minute have-to-dos, a few cards, a few calls

because it's RSVP, no thanks, no party lights

it's Christmas Eve, gonna relax, turned down all of my invites

last fall I had a night to myself, same guy called, Halloween party
waited all night for him to show, this time his car wouldn't go

forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
trudge on home to celebrate
in a quiet way, unwind,
doing Christmas right this time

..............

the A & P has provided me, with the world's smallest turkey

already in the oven, nice and hot, oh damn, guess what I forgot!

so on with the boots, back out in the snow, to the only all-night grocery

when what to my wondering eyes should appear,

in the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

spending this one alone, he said, need a break, this year's been crazy

I said, me too, but why are you...?, you mean, you forgot cranberries, too?

then suddenly we laughed and laughed, caught on to what was happening

that Christmas magic's brought this tale,
to a very happy ending

..............
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas...couldn’t miss this one this year

.......

I REFUSE!

...to start the 2007 Wrappie Award before at least Thanksgiving!

i mean...jeezuzhchrist...there were Xmas displays in September. and two folks said they heard "Christmas Wrapping" TODAY on Q104 in NYC. and the tune is also in the movie FRED CLAUS, which is already in theaters (and does not qualify for the award, boys and gurls!)

it's just TOO EARLY. all them turkeys be thinkin' they got a reprieve since it surely must already be Christmas time...

so i'm looking at noon on Friday, November 23rd as the kickoff....'k?
